I was so inspired by the cupcake stand DIY I found here at http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2012/04/diy-shanty-cupcake-tower.html that I decided to make my own version. I used wooden candlesticks, one wooden finial and three round knobs all found at Michaels to attach the stand together. My husband cut three round circles out of mdf. The largest circle is 14″ in diameter, 10 1/2″ for the middle one and 7.5″ for the smallest circle.
I attached the pieces together with wood glue and screws and painted everything in a dark gray colour. After that I rubbed an old candle on the parts I wanted to distress. For the last step I painted the stand again in a light blue-gray colour. Once the paint has cured you sand the edges slightly and the dark grey colours will show through.
Here is how it turned out.
