I love these children’s rooms for a cottage. Or maybe in your home…
Turquoise… the colour of swimming pools, this colour truly evokes the spirit of summer. It is the colour that represents an escape to many, an escape to an exotic tropical island. If you are afraid to paint a wall in this bright colour think about using turquoise accessories, towels, pillows and linens. You can change them out at the end of the summer to rich warm colours for the fall.
I love this stencilled bathroom floor in this turquoise colour. It reminds me of the mediterranean. If you truly love this colour check out this blog…

Light blue painted rooms remind me of summer and the ocean. They are calming, serene, and can make a room seem light and airy. A room can feel very cold but you can warm the room up with natural elements and wood grains.

I helped a friend with her kitchen update recently. Her house is quite old and she wasn’t sure whether to paint the existing wood cabinet doors or get all new cupboards. She opted for all new. The result is gorgeous. The only … Continue reading
A client of mine was just about to have new ceramic tile installed into her main bathroom. We got to talking about undertones and I mentioned to her that the tile she picked had pink undertones in it. She compared her tile with a pure white coloured tile and immediately wanted to return her tile. She was grateful that she hadn’t paid to have it installed yet. Pink was not the look she was going for. Pink undertones can make a room look dated.
Very few colours used in interiors are pure. The primary colours, red, blue and yellow are pure colours and they will not have undertones. Once you starting mixing them to make secondary colours they lose their pureness. The undertone of a mixed colour is the minor colour that influences the main colour. It is important to determine a colour’s undertones as two different undertones may clash against each other. You may feel something is not quite right in your room.
Here are some points about undertones:
Here are some tips I have compiled in my search for colour knowledge. I love learning as much as I can about how paint can change the feeling in a home. You can change how you feel when you are in a room by changing the paint colour. When you love a room you want to spend more time there which adds quality to your family and home.
When testing light colours over an existing dark colour you may want to prime the wall first or apply several coats of paint first.
When holding up a paint chip to a wall that you want to paint, hold a piece of white paper behind the chip. The existing colour you have on the wall will distort how the new paint colour will look.
Never test a paint colour near a window as it will always appear darker.
Natural light will also change how a paint colour will look on your wall so it is important to test the colour on your wall and check it periodically during the day.
South facing room- natural light will add yellow-white and will make your paint colour look washed out.
North facing room – natural light will add blue to your colour
West facing room – natural light will add orange to your colour
East facing room – natural light will add green to your colour
